In this project, an important goal was to maximize the southern sun exposure in as many rooms as possible, while also providing ample views to the expansive yard and pool. Ultimately, a plan for a long narrow home sited far to one side of the lot evolved. In this way, a large parcel of yard was kept intact and natural light was maximized in every room in the home. Although in a high water area, we were also able to fulfill the clients' wish for a stand-up basement by building up the floor level in parts of the house so that a full basement could be put underneath.
